The first Agricultural University of India is G. B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology (GBPUA&T, Pantnagar University or simply “Pantnagar”). Inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1960s, as the Uttar Pradesh Agricultural University (UPAU). Later, the name was changed to Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology in 1972. This was done in memory of great freedom fighter Govind Ballabh Pant.
